Man, this is really inspiring! I liked more the head position in the 11th and 12th steps, but anyway, this painting is amazing! Thanks for sharing the process!

The painting looks great. Amazing details. One thing, I thought the box shes holding looks slightly out of perspective. It gives me a feeling that the perspective is a little wrong.

Hey.. you are right!
Cheers for that.
I'll have a play with it today and sort it out.. and probably tweak other bits too :)

Ah, now that I've seen the bigger version of it I know what it is. The eyes of the woman look in the direction left of the box not at the box. That's what makes it so awkward.

sorry you think it looks awkward: she is actually looking at the black smoke, not the box

Ah, I didnt realize that! Yes it looks much less awkward knowing that she's looking at the smoke! :) again I think it's very good!

Do you think that working on a coloured background as useful for the final piece or is it just a preference?

:iconstevedelamare:
SteveDelamare Featured By Owner Feb 27, 2013  Professional General Artist
Thanks for the question.
I much prefer coloured or medium toned backgrounds rather than white so I can start more quickly and see highlights more effectively. sometimes the same colour, sometimes a complimentary one :)

Just happens to come across your gallery. Your paintings are great! I shared the same interest with you on realist painting both digitally and traditionally and loves artists like John Waterhouse. Thanks a lot for sharing the tutorials.

how do you do that with the lines? how i see them so defined in the first few panels and then i dont even see them and then it looks life like! how do you tone the lines down so they are unnoticed as lines? its so amazing

when you paint with traditional media, whatever you put on the canvas shows through/ alters the pictures and gives it a bit of soul, so to get the same idea I sketch lines and cross hatches and blobs in the same way.. then gradually add thin paint and blend them out as the picture evolves. Hope that made sense :)
